We thrilled to have 2 Guest Bloggers write for us! This informative and educational blog was written by our AMAZING In-House Nutritionist Amanda Dinte and In-House Sports Therapist, Jo Northwood. We all know what it’s like to feel mentally stressed, but how does it manifest in our bodies physically? Well, how many of the following can you relate to:

  • You struggle to get out of bed in the mornings, yet you feel wide awake when it’s time to go to bed at night
  • You just can’t lose weight no matter how well you’re eating and how much exercise you do
  • You often feel like you’re ‘running on adrenaline’ – going half the day without eating, or surviving on coffee alone
  • You get sick every time a bug or virus goes around the office, and it takes weeks for you to shake it off

These are just some of the signs that your body is physically stressed!

The stress hormone in our body is known as cortisol and it is produced every time our bodies perceive danger. In caveman times, danger came in the form of a wild lion chasing us or extended periods of famine. These days, our bodies elicit this same stress reaction to everyday things like bills, work deadlines and arguments with our partner. This means that our bodies are producing cortisol all day long in an attempt to help us cope with what it perceives to be ongoing threats. And when cortisol production is overworked, it burns out leaving us with trouble falling asleep, difficulty losing weight, zero energy in the tank and a lousy immune system.

So, how do you reverse this?

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as you may think. And, the longer you take to address it, the harder it is to resolve.

Preventative measures are always best, particularly implementing lifestyle strategies to ensure you bring your cortisol levels back down every time they rise. This can be as simple as treating yourself with a therapeutic massage or unwinding in a mobility/stretch class a few nights a week.

Once you’re at the point where you’re experiencing the symptoms listed above, a personalised nutrition treatment plan is vital! This would include a meal plan to ensure you’re eating the correct foods for your body, as well as prescribed supplements so that you can nourish your body the right way and bring it back to optimal health.

If any of this resonates with you, or you’re worried that you’re on your way to start experiencing all of this, make sure you book in with Amanda or Jo today so that they can help you to put some changes in place!
